The dawn of a new era??

I went for a long ride yesterday, just me and my trusty car, along Rt. 15 following the Susquehanna River north.  Destination: Mad About Ewes in Lewisburg.  Goal: spinning workshop
taught by Libby, owner of one of my favorite little yarn shops.

Well, after a day full of history, kinds of breeds, flick vs hand carding, and more, I decided to take the plunge into the wonderful world of spinning.  The yarn shown in this blog is my very first handspun, after Libby had me ply two of my singles together.
So far today, the wheel's set up, ready to spin, so hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to spin I go.

A hot day in February!

The sweater is finished.  Also, finished a scarf knit on Sz. 17 needles out of pencil roving, since it was no fun to spin...but lots o' fun to knit.
I have a picture of me in the FLS/JLS taken outside where I look 5 months pregnant. Hmmm....must've been a freak of lighting. Anyway, I love the thing.
Hooray!

The sweater from the black lagoon :(

So...I blocked THE sweater today and it is huge around the neck.  Perhaps that's due to the fact that I actually soaked the thing in Eucalan stuff and then pinned it out.  At any rate, it'll be totally dry by morning and then what? Anyone out there have any helpful hints?  Mary? Stringplay?

Can I hear an AMEN???

Well, it just may have to snow tomorrow since I completed the 2nd sleeve on my February Ladies Sweater.  Since I am NOT an octopus, that means the sweater is finished.  I only need to block it and sew on the wonderful buttons from Knitty City.

Life is good.

Sacred Stitches, Spinning and Knitting in Public!!!!

What a wonderful couple of days!  The Sacred Stitches display was well received as was the workshop on Pocket Prayer Shawls...then it was off to Mad About Ewes and KIP.  Such fun... and many new friends.  Is there a spinning wheel in my future?  Oh, yeah.......  :)

Convention!

Big doings! I've been invited to have a display and lead a short workshop on our pocket prayer shawls.  Place: Bucknell University; Event: Annual Convention of the Diocese of Central PA.  So, tomorrow I'll be driving me and as much worsted weight as my old car can handle to Lewisburg, PA.  Yee ha!
I plan on making time to visit Mad About Ewe, a lovely yarn shop on Main Street.

Blogging Buddies and Buttons

NYC remains an awesome place.  I've figured out that I REALLY love knitting since I was torn between working on my FLS and staring out the bus window at the Empire State Building.
Who'd have thought?
I met my blog buddy Mary, Snit n' Knit, at Knitty City...a wonderful yarn shop on the Upper West Side.  What fun to get to meet and look at yarns and just plain have fun.  The time was all too short.  I can't get my pictures to upload to my blog today, but will soon post a picture of the awesome buttons that are just perfect for the sweater.  Progress report: Only half of the last sleeve to go and the February Ladies Sweater, a.k.a., the June sweater is complete! And the good news for today is that I have figured out what I did wrong and can now upload lovely pictures again.  Stay tuned for FLS updated photos .

NYC and a Max movie

If all goes well, I'll be on a bus to my favorite city this Saturday.  I'm trying to work up my usual enthusiasm, but am feeling achy and dizzy....this too shall pass.
It'll be a lot different from the last trip to NYC.  What's it been? 3 or 4 years now.
A visit to Ground Zero and Trinity Church is slated and, dare I say, a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.  And then, there's a side-trip to some yarn stores.  I'll have a backpack in case I give in to temptations :)
C'est la vie.

In other news, our beloved Max took a walk on the wet side yesterday and was captured by moi on video......
