A is for architecture.

I love reading everyone's Alphabet entries, and Sonya (Stringplay) invited me to join in the fun. So, my ABC along is going to be about Lancaster, PA. It's funny, but most people probably think A is for Amish when they hear the words Lancaster, PA. Me, I always think of the beautiful and always interesting architecture all over town. Starting with the mundane, I give you the Guggenheim-ish Prince Street Parking Garage. (Photo by Matt Lester) When my children were very young, they loved riding around and around as we exited the parking lot....these days, I really enjoy seeing the structure all lit up in various colors at night.

To walk down West Chestnut Street is like strolling through architectural heaven.

As beautiful as these homes are, they are only a small part of the architectural diversity that exists in Lancaster.

It's taken me a very long time to write this post, mainly because this topic is so important to me. There is beauty even in failure, such as the Prince Street garage, which takes up almost a full block where once stood numerous historic jewels. Maybe I started this post with that garage, because its construction was an impetus for the Preservation movement in Lancaster. But that's the letter P. Stay tuned :)

Family and musical memories...

I discovered a few pics/videos of the Blueberry Festival held at St. John's, Lancaster a few summers ago: wonderful bluegrass music and delicious blueberry desserts (cobblers, sauce on ice cream, smoothies.....) , all for a good cause. The price of a ticket equaled the cost of one sheet of drywall. End result of the event was 100 sheets of drywall for the relief effort in Mississippi after the hurricane. Awesome music, awesome food, good company and helping those in need. :)

If you listen to the video, you'll hear a little bit of " A Taste of Honey"sung by my daughter, Jennifer. The quality's not the best, since I used my camera. but I am sooooo very proud of her and her music. Love you Jen.

Socks and Showers

Behold the ballband dishcloth taken from its lowly state, knitted in Tahki's Cotton Classic and on its way to becoming a centerpiece at Lauren's wedding brunch. Our Thursday night gang at LYS is busily knitting a bunch of these beauties so that Lauren will be able to use them on each table at her wedding brunch. They'll be topped with vases handmade by her future husband Phil, the potter, and finished off with flowers from Central Market.

Lauren is shown in the other picture with fellow knitter, Kathy. The reason for the big smiles is that Kathy is showing off her scarf and purse adorned with Lauren's handmade buttons. Yep. Phil taught Lauren how to make buttons, the prettiest ceramic buttons ever, and Kathy was her first "customer"....such excitement!

OK......and here's a picture of my very first attempt at "real" socks. I'm using Paca Peds superwash alpaca sock yarn which has 20% alpaca, 65% superwash wool and 15% nylon. So, I'm thinking it should be called Wool-Paca Peds. But I digress. Back to Lauren's table-topper which I must finish before any other project is worked on.
